Meet Our Staff


Karen Holmes, PT, DPT, MBA

Dr. Holmes has been a physical therapist for over 30 years. She received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University and later obtained a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Simmons College. She also has an MBA from Salem State University. Recently she became certified in dry needling. Karen has worked for many years specializing in the treatment of orthopedic and sports related injuries and has owned a successful private practice since 2005. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the New Hampshire Musculoskeletal Institute. When not spending time with her family and friends, Karen enjoys bike riding, walking, XC skiing, volleyball, and reading.


Kathleen Muise, PT

Kathleen  graduated from Northeastern University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.  She has been with Holmes Physical Therapy since 2009.  Kathleen brings  many years of experience from working in multiple clinical settings and attending many continuing education courses, to provide the highest quality of care to her patients.




Nancy Nickerson, PT

Nancy graduated from Northeastern University in 1988 and received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.  She completed an intensive manual therapy program in the Netherlands and has benefited greatly from experienced mentors during her many years of practice.  Nancy is especially skilled in the treatment of spine related disorders and has a certification in Dry Needling.  When not working she enjoys horseback riding, hiking and traveling.


Janelle Schander, PT

Janelle received her Master of Physical Therapy in 2001 from Loma Linda University and is the most recent addition to our professional staff. She has several years of experience working in an orthopedic based outpatient setting and is skilled in many facets of manual therapy including joint mobilization, muscle energy techniques and strain counter-strain. She gains great satisfaction in helping her patients return to their busy, healthy lives. Janelle enjoys yoga, biking, XC skiing and walking.


Amy Balantine-Tenant, PTA

Amy graduated from North Shore Community College in 2000 and has worked as a physical therapist assistant for 15 years.  The last 13 years she has honed her skills while working  in an outpatient, orthopedic  setting.  She loves to garden and take long walks and has a young child that keeps her extremely active.


Brooke Knickles, PTA

Brooke graduated from the Physical Therapy Assistant Program at North Shore Community College in 1998 and is the newest member of the Holmes Physical Therapy team. She has spent the last 18 years of her career in both outpatient and short term rehabilitation settings. She has a love for people and gains great satisfaction helping them achieve their goals through physical therapy. When not at work, Brooke is busy raising two active boys and working on her own personal fitness goals.


Office Staff



Elaine is our  office manager and has worked for many years in physical therapy clinics.  Her expertise and knowledge of insurance policies and coverage creates a streamlined process for obtaining referrals and authorizations.  She truly enjoys witnessing our patients' journey to recovery.  In her spare time Elaine likes spending time with her family, traveling, and walking while appreciating the beauty of nature.



Nicole joined  our office staff  seven years ago while attending college. 
She now has a B.S. degree in Exercise Physiology and is pursuing a higher degree and career in physical therapy.  Her favorite part of the day is greeting patients, encouraging them and instilling positivity on their road to recovery.  Out of the office she enjoys fitness, surfing  and nature.



Jill joined our friendly office team in June of 2016.  Jill brings 15 years of healthcare and customer service experience and also holds a certification in Polysomnography from Northern Essex Community College.  She is responsible for welcoming new and existing patients, scheduling appointments, and answering questions regarding your care.  Jill is compassionate about all aspects of her work and strives to make your physical therapy experience as pleasant and stress free as possible.  When not at work, Jill stays very busy with her 2 young boys and husband.  They enjoy the outdoors, camping and just being together as a family.
