Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a highly effective form of physical therapy for the treatment of a multitude of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions. Dry Needling is not accupunture. It is based on the neuroanatomy and modern scientific study of the neuromuscular system. A fine filament needle is inserted through the skin and into deeper tissues that are considered trigger points to your pain.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling works by creating a microlesion within the tissue which helps to reduce muscle tension, improve muscle length, and reduce the inflammatory response. Depending on the state and depth of the tissue, a needle ‘dosage’ will be selected and explained to you by your therapist.

Why Choose Dry Needling?

Dry Needling allows access to deeper tissues than with standard manual therapy intervention such as massage or joint mobilization. The goals of dry needling are the same – decrease pain, improve range of motion, and improve strength. Your therapist will discuss the benefits of Dry Needling for your specific case and a decision will be made between you and your therapist.

Dry Needling is not done in isolation. It is combined with other manual therapy intervention and exercise for expedited and effective recovery. Not all therapists are trained to perform dry needling treatment techniques.
